Description

Turner Ashby accepts the resignation of McDonald as adjutant of the regiment and notes the high regard in which he holds McDonald personally and professionally. Camp Evans (present-day Halltown, West Virginia). 1861.

Transcription

Camp Evans 18th Nov 1861 Lt. A.W. McDonald Jr. Sir Yours of the 12th inst resigning the Adjutancy of the Regiment has just come to hand. In accepting your resignation I beg leave to assure you of the kind regard I hold for you personally as well as of the high appreciation I have always entertained of your merit as an officer and a soldier & hoping that the kindly relations which have heretofore subsisted may continue. I remain Your friend & Servt. Turner Ashby
