Description
John Sevier, signing as clerk of court in Washington County, North Carolina, orders the sherriff to find and transport to court Robert Shurley so that he may answer to Jacob Brown on a plea of debt, specifically 12 pounds of "Virginia money" and 5 pounds damage.
Transcription
State of No. Carolina. To the Sherriff of Washington Greeting We command you to take the body of Robert Sharley if he be found Within Your Bailiwick and him safely keep so that you have his body Before the Justices of Our Court to be held on the 4th Monday in May Next then and there to answer Jacob Brown of a plea of Debt to the sum of Twelve pounds Virginia Money Damage five Pounds herein fail not and have you then and there this Writ Witness John Sevier Clerk of our Court the first day of April 1778 and in the 2d year of Our Independence.
