Description
Henry Lee notes receipt of £3090 from William Guss, 24 April 1779. Place unknown. Lee had the nickname "Light-Horse Harry" and was the father of U.S. officer and Confederate general Robert E. Lee.
Transcription
Rec'd of William Guss Three Thousand & Seventy five which with fifteen pounds he returned for his Trouble on receiving the Money at Wellsandy and deliverying it to me makes in the whole the sum of Three Thousand & Ninty Pounds which he passed his rect. to the Treasurer of this state for witness my hand this 24 day of April 1779.
