Fragment of a deposition, a legal instrument, in which Daniel Boone appears to testify he had been present at the land in question in 1778.
Transcription
[recto] Mail by your self or James Peake before you entered [illegible] Land for said Peak Answrd I know of No one_ Lewis Craig ask’d was you (Col Boon) here at any time before you Entered this Land for James Peak Answered I was; for I was here the 19nth Day of June 1778[?] Rosted som[e] Meat And Got Drink near the Mouth of the Three Bra[cut off] Sworn to as affd this third Day of July 1797 {Therefore to certify that we the commissions saw the advertisement as the Law Directs in 3 News Papers} [signed] David Morris John Porter Daniel Boone Marion County Sat Dec. 7 1797 This Deposition was returned and Ordered to be Recorded Teste Tho. Marshall Jnr[?] C.M.C.[?] [verso] We certify that George Stockton Jnr[?] + James Basley [illiegible] were Witnesses present when the above deposition was taken and the plan where the [?] above specified plan is as certified above [signed] David Morris John Porter Dan.
