Transcription

La Grange 8th ? Jan. the 28th 1801 My dear McHenry Give me leave to introduce you to Doctor Regnault, an eminent French physician, my particular friend, who having acted an honorable part among the free patriots in the fine years of the Revolution was a partaker in their proscription, and has with me returned to his native country. His family affairs require a voyage on the other side of the Atlantic, and he is embarking with his lady. I have the highest esteem for Doctor Regnault’s abilities and character. My old affection for him has been strengthened by obligations during my captivity and by the experience I have of his public and private conduct with respect to his principles, his duties, and his friends. It is probable you may Have Heard By Ameriluas coming from Hamburgh what Has Been there, during His Exile, doctor Regnault’s medical Reputation. I earnestly recommend Him and His lady to yours, and Mrs. McHenry’s friendly acquaintance and good offices, and I do also, through your good care, recommend both to our friends in America. I have lately written By a French Frigate who Carried my [?] to Your part of the United States [?] my, and our best compliments to your lady, family, and Nephew. I am yours affectionately dear McHenry Your friend LaFayette
