Description

Document granting 1099 acres of land to the trustees of William Bingham's estate: Alexander Baring, Henry Baring, Robert Gilmore, Thomas Mayne Willing, and Charles Willing Hare. Dimensions of the tract are noted in detail, as are the machinations by which this tract is granted to the grantees. On parchment, 1806. Includes seal under paper accompanied by signature of governor Thomas M. Kean. Dimensions of tract resemble modern day dimensions of Athens Borough in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

Patent. Alexander Baring and others 1099 As Tioga County To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting: Know ye, That in consideration of the monies paid by Thomas Willing into the Receiver-General’s office of this Commonwealth at the granting of the Warrant herein after mentioned and of the sum of twenty two dollars and ninety cents lawful money now paid by Alexander Baring, Henry Baring, Robert Gilmore, Thomas Mayne Willing and Charles Willing Hare into the sail office there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Alexander Baring, Henry Baring, Robert Gilmore, Thomas Maybe Willing and Charles Willing Hare, (in trust for the uses herein after mentioned) a certain tract of land, called “Athens” situate in the State Purchase now Tioga County Beginning at a post thence by land of James Strawbridge East four hundred and thirty two perches to a hemlock thence by land of Thomas Willing South four hundred and thirty one perches and a half to a dead Chestnut West four hundred and thirty two perches to a hemlock and North four hundred and thirty one perches and a half to the Beginning Containing One thousand and ninety Acres and the Allowance of Six p Cent for Roads H. [being the same tract of land which was surveyed in pursuance of a warrant, dated the 10th day of December 1793, No. 4201, granted to the said Thomas Willing; who by his deed-poll, dated the 12th day of November 1800 conveyed the aforesaid tract (with other lands) to William Bingham, Esq. who being so thereof seized, died, having first made his last Will and Testament in writing, bearing date the 20th day of January 1894, and therein devised his whole estate to the said Alexander Baring, Henry Baring, Robert Gilmore, Thomas Mayne Willing and Charles Willing Hare, their Heirs and Assigns, upon the trust therein declared and appointed them the Executors thereof,] with the appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with the appurtenances, unto the said Alexander Baring, Henry Baring, Robert Gilmore, Thomas Mayne Willing and Charles Willing Hare, Devisees of William Bingham, deceased, their Heirs and Assigns forever, upon the trust declared in the last Will and Testament of the said William Bingham, free and clear of all restrictions and reservations as to Mines, Royalties, Quit-rents, or otherwise, excepting and reserving only the fifth part of all Gold and Silver Ore, for the use of this commonwealth, to be delivered at the pitt’s mouth, dear of all charges. In Witness whereof, Thomas M Kean, Governor of the said commonwealth, hath hereto set his Hand, and caused the State Seal to be hereunto affixed, the twentieth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and six and of the commonwealth the thirtieth Attest, James Trimble Deputy Secretary
