Description
Joel R. Poinsett, the US Minister to Mexico, writes to Captain Finch confirming his opinion to oppose a proposition made by Mr. McWhiteman about small vessels of war, dated January 27, 1822.
Transcription
Washington Jan. 27th 1822 Dear Sir I have received your communication on the subject of small vessels of war and coincide entirely with you[.] Before the receipt of your letter I had determined to oppose McWhitman’s[?] proposition if it had been entertained by the Committee. your views not only strengthen my opinion but will enable me to maintain it by sound arguments. Very truly yours J. R. Poinsett Addressed to Captn. Finch now [?] [?]
