Description

Special Requisition No. 40 form denoting various apparel requisitioned at Camp Ashby on June 25th, 1862. Items include: 5 under shirts, 30 linsey shirts, 10 pair of pants, 13 pair of drawers, 25 pair of socks, 6 cotton shirts. Signed by William Miller, John L. Knott, and Turner Ashby. Ashby's signature appears on this pre-signed form despite his death some weeks earlier, on June 6.

No. 40 Special Requisition (5) Five under shirts @ 2.50 (30) Thirty Linsey shirts @1.50 (10) Ten pair pants @ 5.50 (13) Thirteen pair drawers @ .75 (25) Twenty five pairs socks @ .50 (4) Four cotton shirts @ .75 (2) Two “ “ @ .75 I certify that the above Requisition is correct, and that the articles specified are absolutely requisite for the public service, rendered so by the following circumstances: Capt. McMillen will issue the articles specified in the above Requisition. John L. Knott Capt Turner Ashby Commanding. Recieved at Camp Ashby the 25th of June 1862 of Capt McMillen Assistant Quartermaster, the articles specified in full of the above Requisition. John L. Knots Col. Comd.
