Description
The title page (recto, right side) and the inscriptions (verso, left side) in Special Collections item [Spec Coll] PA4439 .E5 G4 1587, Strabo's Geography, printed in Geneva in 1587 and edited by Isaac Casaubon.
Each page measures 8.5" wide by 11.5" tall.
These two leaves feature the printed title page of the book along with several annotations, signatures, and notes in different hands which, taken together, purport a chain of custody from the editor, Casaubon, to French ambassador to England Philip DuFresne (or Philippe de La Canaye, sieur de Fresnes), to Alexander Fraser Tytler, his son, Patrick Fraser Tytler, to Wofford College original faculty member James H. Carlisle, and finally to the Wofford College Library in June of 1854. Some annotations have been obscured.
Transcription
The title page (right side) includes the ownership signature of Alexander Fraser Tytler at upper right.
Below it is an obscured annotation.
Below and right of the subtitle appears the ownership signature of Patrick Fraser Tytler.

"Clarissimo nobilissimog viro, [Duo?] Ph.a Francinis Domino plurimo observado Is. Casaubonis d.d."
This is an inscription by Casaubon to DuFresne (de La Canaye).
An annotation at the bottom of the title page begins "Ex Libris" ("from the library of") but the next word (a name) is obscured.
The left side page (verso) contains several annotations.

It has many additions on the margin of the Commentary likewise written by Casaubon. AFT [Alexander Fraser Tytler]"
