Wade Hampton writes to General D.S. Walker recommending a young man, W.W. Calvo, as competent to do clerical work for him during the ensuing campaign, dated May 12, 1880.
Transcription
[recto] [printed] United States Senate Chamber. Washington, May 12th 1880 [written] My Dear Sir If you should need any clerical work in your office during the ensuing campaign, I can recommend Mr. W. W. Calvo as fully competent for such duty. He is from my state, & is a very worthy young man. I shall be much obliged to you if you can give him some work to do. I am Respy yrs [signed] Wade Hampton Gen. D. S. Walker
